6.3 Bringing Catholic Social Teaching Into the Classroom

Section 6.2, alongside the “Key Principles of Catholic Social  Teaching,” demonstrates that core values stay consistent while the new format enhances educational accessibility. The newer version presents “Solidarity” and “Preferential Option for the Poor” as concepts which directly relate to school responsibilities by demonstrating community value and inclusive advocacy.

The principle of “The Dignity of the Human Person” became more significant to me in this reading. The newer text uses different wording to state that God loves every person and they deserve respect even when circumstances differ. This concept strongly connects with my personal life and teaching methods. I believe it is my duty as a future Catholic educator to establish an environment which welcomes students from all backgrounds and identities, and abilities.

The updated version provided me with a better system to link Catholic beliefs to social justice principles. My educational goal is to teach students that faith requires active engagement, which leads to promoting fairness and inclusion, and compassion throughout our world.

A question I have is: How can we teach students to apply these principles beyond religious beliefs into practical tools for facing complex situations with empathy and justice?
